You will find below data related to registries under contract with ICANN, such as gTLD operators like .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ, .NAME and so on...

Data available here is extracted from ICANN monthly registries reports available on http://www.icann.org/tlds/monthly-reports/. These reports are published 3 months after their creation, but contain full information coming straight from the registries, instead of being an extrapolation done from a statistical sample extracted from zonefiles updated daily as it is done in most of the other studies.

More information will be added later, as well as other registries, and changes will be announced on our page about updates. Our section dedicated on ICANN accredited registrars will also give you other relevant information.

Available data currently covers the period january 2001 to march 2008 (depending on registries).

The following table gives you for each TLD:

• data about accredited registrars, zonefile access, whois activity, transactions on domain names, nameservers and contacts
• full list of registrars by volume, changes of rank and distribution of domain names
• registrars ordered on their domain names creations
• registrars ordered on their domain names renewals
• registrars ordered on their domain names transfers
• registrars ordered on their domain names deletes

Notes

• Be warned that pages about creations, renewals, transfers and deletes may be heavy, and can weight many hundreds of kilobytes.
• VeriSign was also .ORG registry operator until january 2003.

We also provide you a list of all registrars sorted on their total number of domain names handled.

Graphs of Domain Names Total Number per TLD

Graphs below show, per TLD, the total number of domain names during time. Data used for the graphs comes directly from the registry operators, and thus is not an extrapolation (see introduction).

Early 2007 registry operators for .COM, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ and .INFO have changed their data format, and this can explain some anomalies seen on the graphs below. Same thing at the end of 2007 for the .NAME registry operator.
